$600K bond for teen charged with capital murder in deadly Houston shooting of Judy Walters

On February 14th, Judy Walters, a 65-year-old woman, was shot and killed in the parking lot of her apartment complex in Houston, Texas.

Last week, 17-year-old Owen Leonardo Vilanova-Ardon was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection to her death.

Vilanova-Ardon appeared in court on Monday morning, where bond was set at $600,000. The State had requested a bond of $500,000, while the defense requested a $100,000 bond. Police are still searching for another suspect involved in the shooting.

Walters’s daughter-in-law, Ashley Sivek, was present at the courthouse and expressed her grief over the loss of her mother-in-law. She described Walters as a mother and grandmother with a “loving heart” and spoke of her care for a grandchild who Sivek will now be taking in.

Sivek also expressed confusion and sadness as to why anyone would commit such a violent and senseless act against an elderly and kind woman. The community, along with Walters’s family, mourns the loss of an innocent life and hopes for swift justice for those involved in the crime.
