Couple shot dead before their children’s eyes
The gunman who fatally shot a Maine couple before their children’s eyes in a Westbrook parking lot was charged with murder.
Marcel Lagrange Jr., 24, was tackled and disarmed by bystanders Monday evening just after he shot Brittney Cockrell, 36, and Michael Hayter, 41, dead in a parking lot.
Police responded to the scene at around 8:30 p.m. to find the woman’s body near a vehicle where her partner was pronounced dead.
Their 11-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter reportedly witnessed the homicides but were not physically hurt.
Detectives said that the gunman, who also assaulted an elderly man before his arrest, had no known links to his victims.
He was booked into the Cumberland County Jail as the investigation into the incident continues.
