There are a million reasons why someone would want to lose weight.
It could be because of health issues, it could be to fit a certain size of clothes, it could even be because of the social stigma attached to overweight people.
For Josie Desgrand, a girl from Australia, it was Instagram. At only 16 years old, Josie weighed 128kg, and knew she had to do something. Unsatisfied with her body, she was constantly reminded of what other girls looked like when she scrolled through photos on Instagram and saw skinny, beautiful model girls smiling at her.

She tried different diets, but was unable to persist and each time returned to self-pity and overeating junk food.
But in the end she decided that this was it, she would overcome herself, she would have willpower and she would not stop until she reached her goal.
Josie explained ‘this moment’:
“I went into my room, took off my clothes and was left with bra and panties”, she said. So she was now dealing with herself, “No more Fat Josie”.
“I took pictures of myself from different angles, and I was excited for my next weight loss journey. I used a tape measure and recorded my measurements and knew I had a long way to go, but I wanted to track every change, no matter how small it is”.
Josie set herself small goals to track progress. Not much time passed, and the 16-year-old noticed small changes here and there. She adopted a low-carb, no-sugar diet and increased her water intake.
Together with her father – who joined her on the weight loss journey to lose a few kilos himself – she managed to lose 89 kg only thanks to changing her menu.
So she stepped things up and started playing sports.
She said, “Training at the gym gave me the extra push I needed to reach my goal”.
Instead of being a source of jealousy and depression, Instagram became Josie’s main motivator. She began to gain followers who not only wanted to see her transformation, but also to receive tips and advice for themselves.
“I shared my meals and my selfies through my Instagram account @nolongerfatjosie. My followers grew, and each one was more supportive than the other. ‘You look amazing!’, they wrote. ‘Mmm.. do you have the recipe?'”.
“When people from all over the world join my journey, I didn’t think of giving up. I saved an hour every evening and answered all questions. Since I was in their situation, now I wanted to help as many people as possible. ‘Keep going, don’t give up’, when someone wrote that she couldn’t go on anymore”.
Today, Josie weighs about 62 kg, less than half of her previous weight. What was initially a diet turned into a lifestyle change, and Josie reaped the rewards.
