Colin Allred Raises $8.6 Million in First Two Months of Fundraising for Senate Race Against Ted Cruz

Colin Allred, a former NFL football player, has raised an impressive $8.6 million in his first two months of fundraising for his Senate campaign against Ted Cruz.

Allred’s fundraising haul is significantly more than what Cruz’s last Democratic opponent, Beto O’Rourke, raised during the same time period in 2018. O’Rourke raised $6.2 million in his first three fundraising quarters, but it took him nine months to do so.

Allred’s fundraising has even caught the attention of right-wing media outlets, who are normally quick to downplay Democratic fundraising successes. The Washington Examiner, for example, ran a headline that simply stated “Colin Allred raises $8.6 million in first two months.”

Allred’s campaign manager, Paige Hutchinson, said in a statement that the campaign is “amazed at the outpouring of support” and that they are “more confident than ever that we will have the resources to win next November and send Ted Cruz packing.”

Allred will likely face a contested Democratic primary to challenge Cruz. State Sen. Roland Gutierrez of San Antonio is also expected to run, and state Rep. Carl Sherman of DeSoto is newly considering a bid.

The fundraising numbers show that Allred is a serious contender in the race to unseat Cruz. If he can maintain his fundraising momentum, he will be a formidable opponent in the general election.
