DeSantis Visits New York Pizza Restaurant, Helps Out in Kitchen After Trump’s ‘Pizza Parlor’ Comment

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited a New York City pizza restaurant and helped out in the kitchen, months after former President Donald Trump said that the governor would be working “in a pizza parlor” without his help.

DeSantis, Trump’s top GOP opponent in the 2024 presidential election, visited Grimaldi’s Pizzeria and touted the benefits of coal-fired pizza ovens in an appearance that aired Thursday on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime.

The Florida governor argued that the proposed regulation was evidence that “the left” wants to “control behavior.” He also referenced the controversy involving gas stoves earlier this year, when a number of prominent conservatives erroneously claimed that the government was “coming for” the stoves.

DeSantis’ appearance at the pizzeria drew criticism from some on social media, who pointed to Trump’s previous comment about the governor. However, DeSantis’ supporters defended his actions, saying that he was simply trying to show his support for small businesses.

The reaction to DeSantis’ appearance at the pizzeria was just one example of the intense political debate surrounding the proposed regulation of coal-fired pizza ovens in New York City. The regulation has been met with strong opposition from some restaurant owners and conservative activists, who argue that it would harm the city’s pizza industry.

The debate over the regulation is likely to continue in the coming weeks and months. It remains to be seen whether the city will ultimately adopt the regulation, and if so, what impact it will have on the city’s pizza industry.
