Firearm Instructors gives warning after 3-Year-Old Child Accidentally Kills Self with Gun

The tragedy of a 3-year-old boy in Wharton who was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound has left many parents and local firearms instructors frustrated. Mark Giordonello, a firearms instructor, has heard this story too many times and believes it could have been avoided if proper gun ownership training had been practiced.

Giordonello emphasizes the importance of never hiding a loaded gun, as children are resilient and will find it. He also suggests using a gun lock or a safe for quick access to the gun in the event of an intruder. He believes it is important for parents to introduce safe gun practices to their children, starting at the age of 11. He recommends taking them to the gun range to show them what a gun does and to educate them on safe gun handling.

Above all, Giordonello believes the best way to save the life of a child or anyone else is through proper gun ownership training. He states that even a two-hour class can save someone’s life, and that people have to live with the decisions they make. This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe gun ownership and the devastating consequences that can occur when it is not practiced.
