Florida Man Assaulted His Ex-Girlfriend’s New Man, Killed Her, And Then Died In Georgia Police Chase

Law enforcement officials reported that Jonathan Jerome Segar, aged 31, allegedly shot and killed Ariel Griffin, aged 30, at her workplace, Monterey Boats in Williston, Florida, on June 19. Griffin was the mother of Segar’s toddler, as reported by WALB.
The incident followed Segar’s arrest the day before when he forcefully entered Griffin’s home. According to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Segar pushed Griffin when she opened the door, leading to a physical assault on her boyfriend. The parties separated, and Segar had fled the scene before deputies arrived, according to Law & Crime.
Deputies from Dooly County, Georgia, spotted Segar’s vehicle near Unadilla and initiated a pursuit. During the chase, the suspect allegedly fired shots at officers, who reportedly did not return fire. The pursuit ended with a crash that resulted in the suspect’s death.
Detectives believe that Segar was en route to West Virginia at the time of the incident. The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
Diane Powell, the victim’s mother, described her daughter as a compassionate and selfless person, stating that she would go to great lengths to help others. Powell emphasized her daughter’s kindness, generosity, and beautiful soul, both inside and out.
