Former Trump Aide Walt Nauta Faces Pressure to Flip

Walt Nauta, former President Donald Trump’s longtime valet and body man, pleaded not guilty this week to charges that he helped Trump move around his illegal stash of highly classified documents to conceal them from the authorities.

Nauta is facing up to five years in prison if convicted. However, there is currently no indication that he intends to cooperate with the government and testify against Trump.

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe said on CNN Thursday that Nauta is facing a “tangled game” if he wants to avoid prison.

“The longer he plays that tangled game and curries favor with Trump and is represented by lawyers who are paid for by the Trump Organization, the more his value as a witness may be diminishing,” McCabe said.

McCabe said that if Nauta wants to cooperate with the government, he should do so sooner rather than later.

“The clock is ticking for Nauta if he is going to choose to essentially switch sides and start helping the government,” McCabe said.

Nauta’s case is one of several legal challenges facing Trump as he seeks to avoid accountability for his actions in office.
