How discount grocery stores can help shoppers save more money

Many shoppers are turning to discount grocery stores to combat inflation and save money. These stores, such as Aldi, keep prices low by keeping overhead costs low, offering a smaller selection of about 1700 products, and using electronic shelf updates.

Aldi offers fresh, locally sourced items under their own label and avoids extra costs by not having specialized departments, like a butcher or cheesemonger.

Customers rent shopping carts for a quarter and bag their own groceries. Stores like Joe V’s Smart Shop, World Food Mart, 99 Ranch Market, Fiesta Mart, and Food Town also offer discounts for grocery shopping.

Aldi is currently gaining 16,000 new Houston customers each month and has about 45 stores in the greater Houston area. TikTok star, Heather Sullivan, shared her experience saving $800 on her grocery bill by shopping at Aldi.
