Jessy, 26, from Kansas, opened up about why they spend so much money on modifications, tattoos and piercings.

The Amazon worker, who identifies as non-binary, said changing their image has brought them so much happiness.

Speaking exclusively to The Daily Star, Jessy explained they were around 14 when they first started gaining an interest in altering their appearance.

Their cousin had a stretcher to stretch the holes in their ears – and Jessy can remember thinking it was “fascinating”.

From this point they started doing a little research into the area, and went onto begin their journey in transforming their image.

Now Jessy has 28 piercings, and most of them are around the lip area, with some others near their glasses.

Their earlobes have also been stretched to 80ml, even though most companies only go up to 50ml.

During the interview, Jessy also pointed to ear weights they were wearing at the time, commenting: “I made them myself.”

They also pointed out their 12mm Septum and 20mm nostrils – and the most striking part of their face is probably their horn dermal implants, which can be seen on the forehead area.

When asked what makes people want body modifications, Jessy said: “We’re all different. I think ‘that looks cool’, and then you go ‘I think I can go bigger – I can go bigger again’.

“I want a full body sleeve.

“I have always been a kind of anxious person – I blurred into the background. I liked reading and studying.

“It’s not that I wanted to stand out – the more I do it just makes me feel like myself. It makes me really, really happy.”

Jessy said Kansas is one of the more religious states in the US, so they can experience a lot of “weird” comments about their appearance.

While there are people who are “lovely” and complimentary, others can ask questions like: “What’s your problem?”

“Other people say I’m ruining myself,” they added.

“People are a lot meaner online than they are in real life.

“Some people have told me I’m going to hell.”

Jessy said other people have said “it’s no wonder nobody loves you”, which is ironic, because they’re nearly married.

They said it can just depend on the day – some days people are kind, and other days it’s not so much the case.

Jessy added: “Even though I identify as non-binary, because I was born female, it’s put me in more danger than other people.

“I’ve had to go to my car, lock the door and run and leave.”

But even though they admit they’ve had some tough experiences, Jessy also said the body modification community is “amazing”, and they have met so many friends who are like-minded.

They also have friends who have been in the Guinness World Record Books, and they said it’s amazing to know they are a part of that network of support.

So far Jessy said they have spent around $7,000 to $10,000 (£6,082 to £8,688) all in all, and they don’t intend to stop anytime soon, but they also don’t prioritise splashing the cash on procedures regularly.

“I’m saving for a house with my partner, and that comes first,” they added.

“So if I have some extra cash for something then that’s cool.”

As for anyone who is thinking of having body modifications, or who may simply just feel like they’re a bit different, Jessy has one piece of advice.

They said the key to being happy, and feeling comfortable in your own skin, is simply just being yourself.

Jessy added: “Just believe in yourself.

“What you see in the mirror and what you want means more than what anyone else thinks.

“They don’t know you or know who you are.”
