Man Writes A Letter To The Teens Who Started A Wildfire That Killed His Wife And Daughters

The devastating fire that burned through Gatlinburg, Tennessee in early December 2016 claimed, according to CNN, the lives of 14 people and injured another 175. Three of those people killed all belonged to the same family – Michael Reed’s family. His two daughters (Lily, 12, and Chloe, 9) and his wife were all killed.

The last time Michael spoke to his wife Constance, was when she called him to say that the flames were getting closer to their home. The two teenagers who started the blaze could end up in prison for 60 years.

If you were faced with the unbelievable loss of three members of your family – how would you feel towards the people responsible? Anger, resentment, and rage would be a start. No one would have blamed Michael and his son if that is what they felt.

They lost everything in that blaze. But, instead, Michael felt something completely different. He wrote a letter to the two teenagers who started the fire. The letter was posted on the Gatlinburg Fire Missing or Found Facebook page.

In his letter, Michael talked about his wife and daughters. He said that they forgave them for what they did. Michael’s entire family forgave those who destroyed their family. Would you be so quick to forgive the people who destroyed your life?

I am not so sure I would be so quick to forgive. Michael is certainly an amazing individual. His son is lucky to have him. Those two will come out of this stronger than ever.
