Postal worker, 66, dies while delivering mail after a 62-year-old woman was found unresponsive in Caddo Parish

The record-breaking heat in Texas was blamed for the death of a 66-year-old postal worker who died while on duty, delivering mail in downtown Dallas.

Eugene Gates collapsed dead Tuesday in the front yard of a Lakewood home and despite all residents’ efforts, he passed away as temperatures reached 112 degrees.

“The Postal Service is deeply saddened by the loss of life suffered yesterday involving a Lakewood Post Officer Latter Carrier,” the USPS said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this time.”

Texas along with New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Louisiana were under heat alert on Wednesday.

In Louisiana, another heat-related fatality was reported after a 62-year-old woman was found unresponsive in Caddo Parish.
