Woman Smirks After Trying To Kill Police Officer, Judge Makes Grin Fade

A seemingly routine traffic stop took a horrifying turn when a 26-year-old woman, Desiree Brashaw Smith, opened fire at a North Carolina police officer in an attempt to evade a simple ticket.

Smith displayed a complete disregard for the law and the safety of others. However, when she appeared before the judge, her smirking demeanor and denial of wrongdoing were met with a swift and resolute response.

The incident unfolded just after 11 pm in Fayetteville, North Carolina, when police officers observed Smith’s 2006 Chevrolet Impala running a stop sign at the 2000 block of Karina Street. Acting on their duty to enforce traffic laws, the officers activated their lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop.

However, Desiree Smith had other plans. Instead of pulling over and accepting a traffic citation, she brandished a firearm and opened fire at one of the officers, attempting to take his life. What should have been a simple traffic violation escalated into a terrifying drive-by shooting, forcing the police into a pursuit to apprehend the suspect.

Thankfully, neither officer was injured during the incident. Fayetteville Police Sergeant Jeremy Glass described the situation, noting that as soon as Smith began firing shots, the officer initiated his emergency equipment, and she attempted to flee.

Desiree Smith was subsequently arrested and faced a slew of charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession of a stolen firearm, careless and reckless driving, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

When Smith appeared in court for her initial appearance, she adopted a smirking and defiant attitude, refusing to accept the gravity of her actions. She argued that she should not be incarcerated, highlighting her status as a good student who had never been arrested before.

However, her demeanor did not sway Judge Stephen Stokes, who was determined to impart a lesson in humility. In response to Smith’s arrogant behavior, the judge raised her bond from $25,000 to a substantial $100,000. Smith’s transformation from a smirking defendant to a silent and sobered individual demonstrated the impact of the judge’s decision.

As the investigation continued, authorities discovered empty shell casings in Smith’s vehicle, confirming that they matched the rounds fired at the officers and originated from the stolen firearm used in the incident.
