Arrest made in connection with deadly shooting of transgender woman in 2022

Authorities have made an arrest in connection to the murder of 39-year-old Marisela Castro, a transgender woman who was found dead in the middle of Centerwood Drive in East Harris County last July. A 17-year-old has been charged with capital murder, although investigators do not believe he was the one who pulled the trigger.

The killing of Marisela Castro highlighted the issue of violence against the LGBTQ+ community, particularly members of the trans community. In 2020 alone, the Human Rights Campaign reported that at least 44 transgender or gender non-conforming people were violently killed in the United States.

While an arrest has been made in Castro’s case, authorities are still searching for the person who actually shot her. This highlights the importance of bringing awareness to the violence faced by transgender people and the need for justice in these cases.

The LGBTQ+ community continues to fight for their rights and safety, and it is important to support them in any way possible. This is a reminder that we must work together to create a world where everyone can feel safe and free from violence and discrimination, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
