Josh Duggar’s 12.5-year prison sentence for child pornography conviction extended

Former reality TV star Josh Duggar has had his prison sentence extended by almost two months, according to records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Duggar was convicted on child pornography charges in 2021 and had an original release date of Aug. 12, 2032, but records now show he will be released on Oct. 2, 2032.

The extension comes after Duggar was reportedly caught with a contraband cellphone and placed in solitary confinement.

He has been serving his sentence at a low-security federal prison in Texas. Lawyers for Duggar are seeking to reverse his conviction on legal grounds.

Duggar, who appeared on the reality show “19 Kids and Counting,” was convicted in December 2021 on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography.

He was sentenced to 151 months in prison and moved to Texas from the Washington County Jail in his home state of Arkansas.

Prosecutors claimed that a computer Duggar used to download the images had monitoring software on it, which reported his activities to his wife, but separate software was installed that allowed him to download items without being detected.

Duggar’s attorneys argued that investigators violated his rights by seizing the phone he was using to try to call his lawyer during the search that found the images.

Allegations against Duggar date back to 2006 when authorities received a tip that accused him of molesting four of his sisters and a babysitter years earlier.

The investigation ended after it was concluded that the statute of limitations had passed on any possible charges. The allegations resurfaced in 2015, leading to the cancellation of “19 Kids and Counting.”

Duggar later apologized for marital infidelity and a pornography addiction and sought treatment.
