Man in his 70s dead after major crash with Texas City police officer

An investigation is underway following a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday evening in Galveston County, Texas. The crash involved a Texas City police officer and a white Honda Fit carrying two passengers. Sadly, one of the passengers, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.

According to reports, the crash occurred at the intersection of FM 1765 and FM 2004 in Galveston County. The white Honda Fit was traveling north on FM-2004 when it collided with a Texas City police unit heading west at FM-1764. The Texas City officer was reportedly responding to a call for assistance from the La Marque Police Department at the time of the accident.

All three individuals involved in the crash were taken to area hospitals. The female passenger in the Honda was initially in critical condition but is currently listed as stable at the trauma center at UTMB Health John Sealy Hospital. The Texas City officer was treated for minor injuries at Mainland Medical Center and was later released.

Currently, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and Galveston County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident to determine who was at fault. At this time, no further details about the circumstances surrounding the crash have been released.
