Trump’s Only Defense is to Delay: Gill – LISTEN to This Podcast!

Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCabe and attorney Jill Gill believe that Trump’s legal team is engaging in a “passive-aggressive” way to stop the case from moving forward.

Trump is hoping that the delay will give him more time to build his defense, or to ask for a delay until after the election.

Trump’s legal team is delaying the case by refusing to provide Nauta with Florida counsel.

The Justice Department has set a July 6 deadline for Trump to respond to the CIPA conference, which will sift through all of the classified information. However, Nauta still does not have Florida counsel to sponsor his lawyer Stanley Woodward.

Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCabe and attorney Jill Gill discussed the case on the podcast “The New Abnormal.” McCabe said that it is “ridiculous” that Nauta has not yet obtained Florida counsel, as there are many attorneys in the state who could do so.

Gill wondered why Trump’s lawyer, Bruce Castor, could not sponsor Woodward pro hac vice, as he had already done so for Trump. Castor is representing Nauta at Trump’s expense.

“It’s because — his only defense here is to delay,” said Gill. “And now they’ve set his third try at arraignment. I don’t know why they don’t just appoint a public defender and use that.”

McCabe agreed, calling it a “passive-aggressive” way to stop the case from moving forward.

“It just seems like Trump is trying to use the fact that Nauta doesn’t have counsel to delay the CIPA hearing,” said Gill. “That’s the only thing I can come up with. This is just — it seems ridiculous, and I don’t understand why any of these Magistrate judges are not just appointing a public defender to sponsor Stanley Woodward pro hac vice, so they can get this ball rolling. But we know, and Trump knows, that the longer this goes on, the more reasonable it is for him to ask for a delay for after the election.”
